Ocean Legacy Atlantic Salmon

Native to local waters, our Atlantic Salmon begin their journey to market when eggs are fertilized in the fall at our modern freshwater fish hatchery located near Souris, PEI.  Early in the new year fish hatch and soon begin feeding on a high quality flaked fish feed.  The young fish continue to feed and grow for about 15 months at which point they are know as smolts and are ready to go to sea.

Once taken to the ocean they are fed a rich diet comprised of krill, fishmeal, fishoil and high quality vegetable proteins.  To ensure no feed is wasted, underwater cameras are used during feeding - first to introduce an innovative self contained feeding system in North America, Ocean Legacy is committed to sustainability and continuing to reduce our environmental footprint in a responsible manner.  Low stocking densities, high quality feed and regular check-ups by our veterinarian and scuba diver ensure Ocean Legacy salmon remain healthy and happy.

When the fish reach a marketable size of about 9 lbs they are harvested by our vessel the Lady Legacy captained by Jared Borthwick. Within a few short hours from harvest, Ocean Legacy Salmon are delivered to our local processing plant cleaned and refrigerated in preparation for value-added processing.  The next morning our processing team ensures product is cut to customer specifications and delivered fresh.
